PresbyLASIK – An introduction
PresbyLASIK is a generic term that includes all photoablation (laser) strategies that aim to help a patient recover near vision (due to age-related near vision loss) without too much loss of far vision. The principle of the PresbyLASIK is to induce a pseudo-accommodation by hyperprolate or multifocal profiles that generate Spherical Aberrations (AS). These AS themselves induce a depth of field.

How do you know PresbyLASIK is right for you?
The treatment is personalized. The surgeon chooses this surgical technique according to:
- The age of the patient
- The degree of their presbyopia
- The presence or absence of an associated ametropia (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism) as well as its importance
- The possible existence of a cataract
- The complete ophthalmological examination
The indications for refractive surgery are, in theory, in consensus. What happens in practice however, is that they vary from one surgeon to another because some stakeholders prefer the technique they master best.
We recommend PresbyLASIK if the presbyopia is not total and you are under 55 years.
To know if PresbyLASIK is right in your case, your ophthalmologist must not only practice a complete and detailed ophthalmological examination but also understand:

PresbyLASIK – Further details
PresbyLASIK is LASIK surgery that corrects symptoms of presbyopia. We perform this form of LASIK in the same way as we do for the correction of all ametropia whether it is myopia and hyperopia (isolated or associated with astigmatism).

I am Catherine Albou-Ganem and I am an ophthalmic surgeon brought up in a family of ophthalmologists. I had a passion for ‘the eye’ and ‘the vision’ from my childhood. This was the subject of my first presentation at school.
Today, I share my refractive surgery activity between the hospital and the private sector.
I am proud to have contributed to the development of new laser refractive surgery techniques that can correct vision defects with accurate, effective and safe results when respecting the indications.
